ACYCLOVIR - Have you tried it?

I'm really quite surprised that not too many people have sent in their feedback on Acyclovir oral meds OR the Acyclovir cream. What I can offer to this discussion is that Acyclovir is the way to go if you are wanting to treat your herpes outbreaks with a clinically proven herpes medication and can't afford to so with Valtrex or Famvir because funds are low OR because you don't have health insurance that will cover the cost of your medications. Acyclovir is just as good as Valtrex - it just doesn't distribute as quickly and evenly throughout the body as Valtrex does. That's basically the only difference in my opinion.

If you have tried Acyclovir oral meds OR Acyclovir cream to treat your herpes outbreaks and would like to voice your opinion on this particular page, feel free to send me your input and I will be happy to post it for you. You can also vote in our poll over on the STD Message Board if you would like to do that instead. - Angela

Unfortunately topical preparations of Acyclovir are not very effective at reducing the severity of herpes outbreaks or healing them faster. Acyclovir is available as a tablet. It works well for treating herpes. Because less of the active medication actually survives digestion you have to take it more often than Valtrex. Valtrex is actually an acyclovir pro drug. This basically means you swallow Valtrex and during digestion it is converted into acyclovir and this way allows for more of the active acyclovir to get to your cells to help fight the herpes virus.  - B
