FAMVIR - Have you tried it yet?
I find it very odd
that nobody seems to talk about Famvir as much as they do Valtrex. I
have tried Famvir before. Back when I was first diagnosed I was in
the process of tracking my outbreaks because I wasn't sure what the
frequency was going to be. I even kept a journal of my outbreaks
because I wasn't sure exactly what they were supposed to feel like.
Everybody always mentioned triggers prodromes and things of that
nature and I had absolutely no idea how I was supposed to read my
body.
While I was doing all
this tracking I decided I was only going to treat my outbreaks as
they happened. I did treat my outbreaks with Valtrex and then again
with Famvir. I wanted to try them both and compare the two to see
which one worked the best for me before making up my mind as to
whether or not I would go on suppressive therapy.
Eventually I did wind
up on suppression because I felt as though I were getting too many
outbreaks and too often. I chose Valtrex over Famvir because it just
felt like the outbreak would heal quicker. I wound up doing
suppression for two years. It was the best thing I could ever do for
myself AND for my partner. And now that mea and my partner are
married we don't worry so much about him catching it from me and I
am no longer on suppressive therapy. - Angela :)
Famvir and Valtrex both work very well. One isn't
necessarily better than the other for episodic dosing. For the Valtrex you take
500 mg twice a day for three days for outbreaks. Famvir is 125 mg twice a day
for five days for outbreaks. - B
