Honolulu H Pal

Hello everyone, my name is Christin.  I was diagnosed with genital herpes (HSV2) in February of 2005.  I admit that having herpes has been difficult at times, but most of the time, I honestly don't even remember that I have it.  I have been lucky enough to meet and date people that have been very accepting of my condition.  Herpes has never affected my standards, or what I expect from a relationship. It has only changed who I decide to have sex with - which in a way, is really good. Now I am not just sleeping with anyone I "think" I'm interested in or "might" be compatible with. I get the chance to really get to know them before getting sexually involved.

Since I was diagnosed with herpes, I immediately started using the herpes message boards and found them to be fascinating. I found communities out there, like yoshi2me, where people can communicate with others going through the same thing.  I decided to write my Masters thesis on this topic, titled, "Types of Support Offered by Online Message Boards for People Diagnosed with Genital Herpes." I have researched and learned a lot about this condition in the last few years, as well as talking to and making friends with others living with herpes. I have realized that herpes really isn't a big deal at all.  I am still the same intelligent, ambitious, and beautiful person that I was before this virus, and I will continue to be.  My goal is to do whatever I can to help the herpes community and to educate others in the process. So, anyone who is feeling down, needs someone to talk to, or just needs a new friend- please don't hesitate to contact me! =) Christin
