Maine H Pal
In December 2000, Jim was diagnosed with
herpes. Jim
immediately sought to educate himself on the topic and realized the
lack of support in Maine. In July 2001, Jim founded Maine H Friends
Social Support Group. Since that time he has worked as a volunteer
offering email correspondence to those who are newly diagnosed or in
need of support.
Jim Jacobsen has worked for the State of Maine for 19 years,
including 9 years with the Department of Conservation and 10 years
with the Bureau of Health, where he currently works. Since 1997, he
has been a web master for a program within the Bureau of Health,
with a special emphasis on creating web pages that are compatible
with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Jim is a member of the
Maine State Webmasters, HTML Writers Guild, and the International
Webmasters Association.
Using the knowledge he has gained by creating and maintaining public
and private websites, and his artistic and graphic talents, Jim
recently launched his own web site design business, Far Horizon
Designs. Jim has been an instrumental participant in bringing you
the information on Herpesonline.org.
Jim lives in a former Methodist Church parsonage built in 1888, with
two cats, two goldfish, and in the summer one semi-tame porcupine.
Ironically, he now attends that church. In his spare time, he writes
poetry and works on his antique Plymouth Fury.
*February 8, 2005 Update: Jim now plays
with a 1974 VW Beetle, having sold the ol' Fury (sob). Also, last
November Jim became a certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist
Church - Not bad for being a Christian for only two years, huh? -
