Manchester H Pal

Hi my name is Mark (blueskies) and I am from Manchester in the UK.

I have suffered with H since 2000 and initially had no idea what it was. I guess that I was in some kind of denial at the time. I had itchy skin in my groin (base of the penis) area and I didn't shave down there then so couldn't really see what was going on. I don't think I really WANTED to know either. I did think it was due to some really long sex sessions I was having at the time and that I was suffering the result of friction. How wrong I was! (Sorry for being so graphic)

Then I started shaving and had an OB. OMG I knew as soon as I saw it. It looked EXACTLY like a cold sore; you know the type of thing lots of people get on their lips, oral H. It healed after a week and I went to a clinic where I had a nurse inform me that the NHS would not pay for blood tests, as they are expensive, inaccurate and that they diagnosed by observing patients symptoms alone. They said that from my description of the problem/symptoms I definitely had Genital Herpes and that if my OB's were bad I could be prescribed Acyclovir tablets 400mg twice a day. The tablets are free on the NHS from a GUM (Genito Urinary Medicine) clinic.

I got the tablets and after 6 years of an OB every month they stopped. Each OB was generally the same and never went better or worse. Just a small cluster of blisters. Some pains down the back of my right leg too. Now if I stop the tablets for a week I get an OB straight away. I don't take 400mg twice a day as I have found that taking it once a day seems to keep OB's away.

I also run a free forum/date site replacing hdate.co.uk called HMATE. Everyone is welcome.

I hope my story helps anyone diagnosed with this pesky virus and that the fact I now live quite happily with it sends out a positive message. - Mark
