San Antonio H Pal

Hi! My name is Christy, and I am an active member on the Herpes Community & Discussion forum. I was diagnosed with Herpes about four months ago, and just recently HPV as well. As of late I am talking with doctors on how to prevent ending up with cervical cancer, as I was told this would eventually develop if my HPV was left untreated. This is an extremely hard time in my life…I’m 20 years old, a Sophomore at The University of Texas, and I’ve had one serious relationship in which I ended up contracting both of these STDs. I never thought it could happen to me but it did, and I am accepting this as well as working on trying to improve my health. I’ve been to counseling ever since my Herpes diagnosis which has helped enormously, and also tried to get involved in as many STD discussion forums as possible. I am constantly doing research on HSV and HPV because I believe that the best defense against STDs such as these is to learn as much about them as possible! Indeed, I have gradually become more at ease with my current situation the more I learn about it!

I firmly believe that if I can help others who are in similar predicaments, even if it’s just providing a listening ear, feedback, or important information, than I can turn my diagnosis into a rewarding experience. I want it to be realized that you don’t have to be so scared or think your life is over because of this. I am currently still a fulltime student at U of Texas and working on getting a degree in Political Science with a minor in Education or Economics….I haven’t made up my mind yet! Hopefully UT law school is next on my list! I have a loving boyfriend who has stuck with me through all this, (he is the one who unknowingly gave me both HSV and HPV) and I think the most important thing he ever did for me was not treating me any differently when this happened…as I have done the same for him. We are both working through this together, and hopefully can come out stronger people on the other end. The most important thing to come out of this is knowing is that you can live a normal life, and that’s what I’d like to pass on. - Christy
