Genital Herpes Treatments! Clinically Proven Herpes Antivirals

This is a listing of herpes treatments that have been clinically proven to effectively treat the herpes simplex virus. If you have tried any of these herpes treatments please share your positive or negative experiences about that treatment for posting on the feedback pages. Send me your comments and feedback. Be sure to check out the treatment section on our STD message board where you will find there are polls set up to get your feedback over there too! FYI: The only way you can vote in the polls is to register for the site. But not to worry because the site is free. Just make sure you pick a screen name that is clever so that you will have a small degree of privacy.

Have you tried any of these herpes antivirals? If so, did they work for you? Did you experience any side effects? Did it help to solve the flare up problem? Write me and let me know, k?

Acyclovir - an antiviral drug that slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. Acyclovir lessens the symptoms of these infections and shortens the length of time you are sick. Acyclovir is used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses. Illnesses caused by herpes viruses include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chicken pox. Acyclovir is also much cheaper than Valtrex. It might not be as convenient to take as Valtrex is but it sure does beat the high cost of Valtrex when you don't have insurance coverage.

Acyclovir, have you tried it?

Famciclovir (Famvir) - When I was first diagnosed with herpes I tried Famvir right after about a week of taking Zovirax. I think my doctor prescribed that to me because I only had to take it twice daily instead of five times a day like I did with Zovirax. It worked pretty well. Eventually after comparing it to Valtrex I decided that Valtrex worked much faster when it came to getting rid of outbreaks. - Vote in our poll for Famvir to treat herpes. Tell us what you think of it if you have tried it.

Valacyclovir (Valtrex) - Eventually I did decide to go on suppressive therapy and picked Valtrex because as I stated earlier ~ for me it worked quickly. I was on suppressive therapy taking only 500 mg of Valtrex daily. I did this for two years and it worked great!! Not getting any outbreaks helped me to feel somewhat normal again. It's nice when there are no reminders that you have herpes which ultimately is what having an outbreaks always tend to remind people of, right? ;) Now I did stop suppressive therapy eventually and haven't been on it since the spring of 2001. The only time I have had to go back on it is during the last six weeks of my pregnancy to try and prevent a herpes outbreak from taking place during labor and delivery. It worked well!!

Valtrex, have you tried it?

Valtrex Commercials - I am probably the worlds biggest fan of the Valtrex Commercial. Why? Because they get people talking about Herpes no matter how you want to look at them. I have seen enough Valtrex commercials to see just how much the public is being educated on herpes. It kinda makes you wonder exactly which people are noticing them though.. You know how it is when you aren't pregnant and you don't really pay attention to the baby commercials and then once you become pregnant you think that diapers have taken over your living room? I have to wonder if it's the same with people that have herpes vs. people that don't know any better about herpes. I think maybe it's those that have herpes that have a tendency to complain the most about the Valtrex commercial. Now the ones that complain about these commercials that don't know their status are just looking for something to write about OR they just want to stir the pot. What do you think?

Zovirax - Now that is a herpes antiviral that is downright a pain in the butt!! The reason I say that is because that is the medicine that the clinic I went to gave me at first. You have to take that stuff like five or six times a day and it was really hard for me to figure out how to divide my day up. Thank goodness the doctor I went back to for my follow up switched me to Famvir and then eventually to Valtrex. - Tell us what you think of Zovirax.

Alternative Herpes Treatments - I want to know what you are taking to treat your herpes outbreaks. Are you taking a clinically proven herpes antiviral OR are you taking something that you might have found over the counter. Everybody has different reasons for taking different things and no two situations are going to be exactly alike. With this in mind, I would LOVE to know why you chose the OTC med that you picked and why? - Thanks!

Other Treatments - Ok, let's face it. Everybody has their home made alternative remedies that they use to treat different things that pop up. I know there are remedies out there that people have put together or tried to treat their herpes outbreaks. If you have a recipe that somebody can cook up in the kitchen that you have used to treat your herpes outbreaks I would LOVE to hear about it. Thanks! ;)

Talk about it!
