STD Press Release: Two Women, One Mission
Angela Stevens of Omaha, Nebraska and Gayla McCord of Shirley, Indiana
are two women on a mission. The pair met online nearly 4 years
ago. Both women, having been active in online support for those
living with Sexually Transmitted Diseases several years prior, it was
bound to happen.
Though
Angela and Gayla have never laid eyes on one another, their friendship
and passion for a mutual cause has grown to become one of the largest
STD Resources on the internet. With mounting phone bills and a growing
friendship, they hope to one day meet.
Angela and
Gayla maintain their own websites, and have found a way to make their
sites work together to bring forth a means through which people can find
all the answers to questions that can only be answered by someone who’s
“been there.”
www.Yoshi2me.com,
and www.Herpesonline.org are sites that are created for people living
with STD’s by people who live it.
Forget all
the medical jargon that can be difficult to understand, much less
comprehend when the initial trauma of being diagnosed with a
life-altering infection sets in. The network of STD sites provides
information that anyone can understand and if not, there is someone a
single click away that can help.
Through the
networking of their sites and their thousands of members, Angela and
Gayla also worked to create The H-Pal Program.
The H-Pal Program
is an email program that provides online support in a one-on-one basis
for those who may be reluctant to visit
message boards and are more
comfortable discussing their situation in the privacy of emails.
Yoshi2me.com and Herpesonline.org are strictly
volunteer sites. The two women are committed to encouraging change in
STD Testing, since standard STD tests do not include Herpes, HPV or
HIV. Promoting fact based STD information and awareness is of its
utmost importance, so much so, neither Angela nor Gayla will agree to
become a non-profit organization. Both are passionate about their cause
and refuse to succumb to any means that could potentially prevent them
from speaking the absolute truth.
Angela is
the
Omaha
HELP
Group Facilitator in
Nebraska.
Gayla facilitates the Southern Indiana HELP Group
and is listed as The Lead Patient Advocate for a major antiviral
treatment for genital herpes. Both Angela and Gayla are well versed in
the topics of STD’s and have medical professionals they promptly call on
if ever a professional medical opinion is needed.
Angela and
Gayla both live with genital herpes and are married to partners without
HSV. In November of 2005, Angela will give birth to her second child
while living with herpes.
