Dear Joy Behar and Barbara Walters
 Ms. Walters, I'm the webmaster
for one of the largest (million+ page hits per month) and oldest sites on the web
dealing with information and support for people with herpes:

I was very surprised and
disappointed with the content of Joy Behar's "The View" Feb 13th, 2004
program in dealing with the issue of herpes. In the future, before anyone
stigmatizes and makes fun of people with herpes, they should realize that at
least 25% of the audience has this virus and that is if you only consider
those with genital herpes. The percentage rises to 80% if you also consider
the herpes simplex virus orally as cold sores. As an exercise, look around
you in the studio and count, one, two, three, herpes, one, two, three,
herpes and so forth. Think about it, please. Herpes is NOT appropriate
material for jokes and put-downs from my perspective.
