I wrote to the makers of Valtrex and suggested that they add some awareness issues to their commercials,,ie, that 90% of the people with herpes have no idea they even have it, and that people should get tested.
They replied with the following:
Dear Elizabeth:
Thank you for contacting GlaxoSmithKline with your feedback.
The goal of advertising medicines and providing disease awareness messages is to get useful information to patients so that they are aware of the most current treatment options and so they can take greater responsibility for their own health. GlaxoSmithKline has made great strides in this area over the last several years, and we think that our efforts have improved patient care.
Our advertising policies are continually under review, as are all our business practices, to ensure they are filling a patient or business need and to ensure their propriety. We value hearing from individuals like yourself, and your views will be taken into consideration as we plan future advertising placements.
We appreciate the opportunity to serve you. If you have further questions concerning GlaxoSmithKline or our products, please contact our GSK Response Center at 1-888-825-5249 during our normal business hours, Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. (Eastern Time).
Sincerely,
Joel

I think that more people should email them and give their opinion on whether or not they should promote more awareness in their valtrex commercials. Their email is: USCRCWEBgsk.com
