i've tried it and it's worked for me. i apply it lightly, but straight, onto the outbreak. personally i'd rather deal with a little redness than an erupted outbreak. it cools the burning. if i have an outbreak that's surfaced for several hours and have not been able to address it immediately, i am a little more liberal in applying the tea tree oil. i also use the eco harvest organic brand. thus far i've noted smaller outbreaks when i do have them. I take Valtrex and L-Lysine as well. i've been slack at taking them routinely lately for stupid inexcusable reasons...which is bad because i'm a nurse and i know better. however, when i take my meds and lysine as i should, eat and sleep properly, i'm free of outbreaks regardless of stressors. but that's just me. tea tree helps when i goof up and am non-compliant with my routine therapy, and usually my outbreak subsides in 2-5 days at the most. generally closer to 2 days. there's also an awesome spray i use if i'm on the go that's made by the same manufacturer. it's called RELIEF SPRAY, and it also helps and it's alot more cooling and lighter weight it works for just about all that itches and stings i find. i'm always leary about mixing any kind of oils in a plastic spray bottle or container, because i know some oils erode plastic. i didn't do great in h.s. chemistry, so i don't know how safe doing that is but whatever floats your boat i'll try anything in reason at least once. wish THAT was the reason i ended up in this predicament then i'd at least have a good story behind how i contracted HSV2 in the first place. lol.-flojo
