Offering Birth Control Pills to our CHILDREN?

Posted in Health Buzz | 4 Comments »

birthcontrolpills

A controversial proposal at a Maine middle school would offer birth control pills or patches for girls. – How young is too young for birth control?

“The students will need a parent’s written permission to access any services provided, but they would not have to disclose which service they receive, a point of contention for some.”

Let’s teach our kids how to lie to their parents so they can get their hands on birth control pills. That makes perfect sense!

:: note the sarcasm ::

What is wrong with some parents these days? What is wrong with our healthcare professionals? What is wrong with talking about sex and what can happen as a result of having sex?

It’s bad enough that Human Growth and Developmental classes had to be implemented because parents don’t want OR know how to teach their kids about basic information regarding their own development as well as feelings about sex, etc.

Don’t get me wrong, I am for Human Growth and development and Sex education type classes because let’s face it we don’t all have the educational background OR the information necessary to discuss every little detail.

But, come on…? Do we have to give our 10, 11, 12, and 13 year olds free access to birth control? If parents in Oregon can’t take a few minutes to fulfill their parenting roll then maybe Child Protective Services should step in and place these kids with families that will care for them instead of relying on the schools to teach kids to lie.

:: personal rant about to begin ::

My daughter goes to school with a girl who’s Mom let’s her boyfriend spend the night at their house. Remember that story? – Would you let your 15 year old’s boyfriend spend the night???

Ok, so I’m a little ticked off right now. It’s time for me to put the coffee away, go get in the shower and start my day!! I’m not even going to dwell on this OR let it ruin my day. It is nice to be able to blog it though, eh?

I’d LOVE to know what your thoughts are on all of this.

Can I still contract any std’s from this girl?

Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »

Here’s the question:

Last night, i was giving cunnilingus and fingering this girl. we did not engage in intercourse but i did notice that i might of had openings on my tongue (no bleeding) and an cut in my finger which was definitely exposed. the cut is not/was not ever bleeding but it looks like it is deep enough to release “puss.” can i still contract any std’s from this girl? due to reasons that wont be mentioned, i couldn’t wash my hands until about 2 or 3 hours later, i believe. my question is, how much at risk am i? should i get tested? i look forward to hearing your replies. thanks.

Here’s my response:

It is possible to contract an STD via any type of sexual encounter. If you believe that you are at risk for having contracted an STD then you should really make an appointment to see your healthcare professional so that you can have proper STD testing done. Since not all STD’s are included in the routine STD testing process, it’s probably a good idea to ask them specifically what they will be testing you for so that you don’t leave thinking that you’ve been tested for everything when in reality you have not.

I thought I read you went on a herpes cruise

communitycruises

Somebody sent me an e-mail today asking if I had been on a cruise before. I have been on one cruise before and that was back in the summer of 2001 when I went on my honeymoon as a newlywed.

We went on a Northbound Alaskan Cruise on a Princess. It was wonderful, beautiful, peaceful, magically, and insanely breathtaking. My favorite parts of the trip was when we would hike up to the deck, hop in the Jacuzzi, and watch the stars and mountains go by.

I guess whoever wrote me thought that I had been on a cruise through the Social Support Networking Alliance. There are social groups that host cruise line events but you kind of have to dig through them to find out who’s hosting what, where, and when.

Sometimes the event facilitator will ask me to post their event details but this year that hasn’t really been a whole lot going on within the SSNA. I haven’t heard much from the HELP groups either.

Quick Questions Answered about Genital Warts

Here are the genital wart questions

1 in 3 adults has the Human Papillomavirus, the virus that causes genital warts and is also known as HPV. It is possible to carry the virus and not know it. So symptoms for HPV do not always show up.

As with the herpes virus it’s also possible to pass HPV even with condom use. The reason is because condoms do not cover the entire genital area. It’s also possible that the HPV virus can clear the body all on it’s own. At least that is what I’ve heard on those HPV commercials.

The Herpes Saga

Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »

This week I decided to pick questions from the STD Forum and post my answers here on the Sexual Health Buzz blog. I’m thinking those that don’t like to participate on forums might like to see what we discuss. Plus, the blog posts might help somebody out there somewhere.

Most people that test positive for HSV-2 and negative for HSV-1 have genital HSV-2. Statistics dictate that it’s more common to have genital HSV-2 than it would be to have oral HSV-2.

Some people will say that they have never had an outbreak in the genital area but how do they know for sure? Sometimes it’s easy to make a mistake about that since there are so many other issues that can come up down there. For example: jock itch, yeast infection, bacterial visions.. stuff like that!

I realize that sometimes healthcare professionals will attempt to diagnose people just by glancing at the area but that’s really not always the best way. If you have an outbreak it’s probably a good idea to try and get in to see your doctor within the first 24 – 48 hours of the sore area popping up. That way your doc can do a herpes culture and send that off to the lab ASAP. The doc can also have the lab type the test so that you can find out if it’s HSV-1 OR HSV-2. If you wait too long to get the culture done then that makes it possible for your test results to come back false negative which is why I’m always telling people to get in QUICK. If the doctor can’t see you then there is always urgent care clinics that can help.

As for being able to pass herpes on without having an outbreak – it’s totally possible. That’s why some healthcare professionals will tell you to always use a condom but you also have to figure that a person can still contract herpes even with the use of a condom since a condom doesn’t cover the entire genital area.

Excellent Relationship Advice

If someone really cares about you, then, herpes isn’t going to stop them.

I know a couple of people who are in relationships with people with Hepatitis B and C. They have chosen to be careful with the one they love. Herpes isn’t debilitating. It won’t kill you. Hepatitis can lead to liver dysfunction and it can also be transmitted. So, yes, it would be considered worse than herpes.

Are there people out there that would leave a spouse/significant other
because of cancer, job loss, weight gain, diabetes, car accident, etc. Yes, there are. And, they are the same people that would choose to leave a relationship due to herpes.

I knew someone that told me that wouldn’t date someone with herpes. They also told me they would never marry someone with asthma, diabetes or cancer. Well, why wasn’t that a shocker???

Unfortunately, this world is filled with a lot of superficial and shallow people. It takes core and integrity to stay in a relationship with any kind of “condition”. And, that isn’t always easy to find. Yes, you may have to wait longer. But, aren’t you worth it? Should you really settle for less? I would rather be alone than to settle for someone who isn’t a keeper.

I know, that I wouldn’t have ran if I was told in advance. Because I know my foundation. I’m looking for someone with a similar foundation. Shouldn’t we all be looking for someone with our same foundation and core anyway?? :O) – Lemonade
