That would be Miss M! She’s ready to hear from folks that are in Alabama OR Mississippi. She’s got a heart of gold and she wants you to know that YOU are NOT herpes.

Brand New Utah H Pal

The rest of the H Pals

A great way to get more people involved in this program is to help me spread the word. There are still quite a few states that are not yet represented.

Even if there are states that are represented we can still use more H Pals. There is no such thing as too many H Pals.

We could use a few more country H Pals as well. Thanks!

Tennessee H Pal

Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »

I’m so excited and pleased to announce that we have a Tennessee H Pal!

If you aren’t quite sure what H Pals are you can change out our main listing of them here: H Pals

If there is anybody out there in MySpace land that would like to be an H Pal all you have to do is let me know and we’ll set something up.

If a state is already highlighted on the page that’s ok, we take everybody that wants to be one even if we already have H Pals for that area. In my opinion, you can never have too many H Pals. All that is needed is a willingness to help and a heart of gold!

Besides, I’d like visitors to my site to have lots of peeps to choose from when it comes to contacting somebody for help one-on-one.

Candace (the new Tennessee H Pal) is listed on my top friend’s list on my MySpace account. I know she likes making new friends so don’t be afraid to request for her to add you as her friend.

Let’s keep the circle of friendship going, ok?? And don’t forget to let me know if you want to be an H Pal.

Nerve.com Media Request

Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »

I’m writing an article for Nerve.com about online dating sites for people with STDs.

I’m looking to interview people (*anonymously, if you prefer*) who have used the sites (positivesingles.com, etc.) and (even if you haven’t used the sites) who have feelings about them one way or another.

Questions Include:

  • Have you used online dating sites for people with STDs?
  • If so, what drew you to them?
  • If not, why not?
  • Even if you haven’t used them, what’s your opinion? Are they a godsend (no Talk!), or do they (inadvertently) help reinforce the “leper”-like stigma of STDs? Or something in between/a little of both/etc.?

I’m not aiming to take one position or the other in the article; just exploring all angles.

I can assure confidentiality and sensitivity.

For my credentials, you can see www.lynnharris.net.

My deadline is tomorrow (Tuesday).

Please email me at lynn @ lynnharris.net if you’re interested in sharing what’s on your mind!

Thank you. – Lynn Harris

If you have a media request OR press release you would like posted on this blog don’t hesitate to send it to me and I will gladly repost it for you! Thanks – Angela aka yoshi2me of yoshi2me.com

Announcing the next H-YPE London Party!!!

Posted in Health Buzz | 2 Comments »

ssna

In honor of the sometimes loved and sometimes dreaded Valentine’s day, I’ve booked Saturday the 16th of February, 2008 at our regular haunt, Potion.

Since the next do is just over 6 weeks away, I would suggest you get busy in booking anything like hotels to avoid rushing closer to the date. Remember to stick it in your diaries so you can come along and join in on the H-YPE London Valentine’s party.

I can recommend the St Giles hotel, just off Tottenham Court Road as its close by, has loads of rooms and should be able to cater for a large group and is a great place to hang out before and after the Potion do.

The venue is called Potion Bar and it’s a great place for a party. We have the downstairs bar all to ourselves which will ensure maximum privacy for those that may be a little worried about that and there are some funky alcoves for you lurkers to lurk in.

The night is purely social and just an excuse to have a drink or three. So if you already have a boyfriend or girlfriend then don’t let that stop you from joining us. Of course there’ll be numbers swapped and dates made but that’s not the sole purpose for these parties. It’s also a great opportunity to make some new friends and to hang out with some old friends too. As I always say, the more the merrier.

So here are the details:

Date: Saturday 16th of February, 2008

Time: 6:30pm till 1:00am (Potion only)

Address: Potion Bar, 28 Maple Street (Corner of Maple Street & Fitzroy Street), London W1T 6HP

The party is downstairs and we have the whole downstairs area to ourselves till 1:00am. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could arrange a newbie meeting point pre-Potion and if someone else can arrange for a venue afterwards.

Please contact me directly if you would like to volunteer for either of those roles.

Closest tubes are Warren Street, Goodge Street & Great Portland Street. I would suggest you print off the map from the link below to make life easier on the day.

Follow this link for a map

Important note: the room is booked in the name of Prof and in my real life name too for those of you that know it so don’t forget to mention it if there are any problems getting in. As far as Potion Bar know, we are just a group of friends that enjoy meeting up every two months or so, and for those of you that may be concerned, there’s been no mention of H.

Please RSVP me to say whether or not you can make it so that I can get an idea of numbers.

Please pass this email onto anyone that has not yet heard of our get togethers, who you feel may benefit from a night out and meeting others in the same boat as them. These parties seem to be going from strength to strength so let’s try and make this one even better and get as many people there as possible.

SO PASS THE WORD!!!!

Feel free to bring along your partner or friends, whether they’re in the club or not as some people did at the last do. It can only have a positive impact for others to see that it IS possible to have a relationship with someone that’s not in the club, or it may just give them the boost they needed to tell a friend. It demonstrates that there ARE people out there that can understand and accept our situation and prove that all is NOT lost.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments. All points of view are welcome.

See you all there!!!!

How many years did it take you to stop having outbreaks from sickness?

Posted in Health Buzz | 2 Comments »

When I was first diagnosed with genital herpes type-2 I got outbreaks (so it seemed) all the time. If I wasn’t having my period, I was having an outbreak. It seemed in the beginning that I got them every two to three weeks and sometimes more often than that.

Eventually I started to track my outbreaks on a calendar along with the days that I would take my Valtrex and how many I would take. For outbreaks I would take 500 mg twice daily. I also tried Acyclovir and Famvir and eventually decided that the Valtrex was kicking the outbreaks in the butt much quicker.

After tracking my outbreaks and checking to see which medicine was working the best for me, I decided that I would like to go on suppressive therapy because I was so sick and tired of having to deal with outbreaks all the time. So I did, I went on suppressive therapy for the next two years taking 500 mg once daily but always having enough Valtrex on hand to bump up my dose to 500 mg twice daily just in case I did get an outbreak while I was on suppressive therapy.

It was 1995 or 1996 when I contracted herpes and now it’s 2008. So you see, I’ve had genital herpes for a long time. I don’t really deal with outbreaks any more and I am no longer on suppressive therapy. In fact, the only time I put myself back on suppressive therapy was the last 6 weeks or pregnancy with my last two babies. I did that to do what I could to prevent outbreaks during labor and delivery. It seemed to do the trick because I was able to have vaginal deliveries with no complications.

You can read all about that on my Herpes Biography

Do you find that some medications trigger outbreaks?

Posted in Health Buzz | 4 Comments »

I really don’t think that it’s the medication or antiviral that can trigger the outbreak as much as being in poor health can possibly trigger an outbreak.

I personally believe that stress is the main trigger for folks with herpes. So instead of assuming that it’s a medication that you are taking you could always ask yourself if you are stressed or feeling sick.

Sometimes an immune system that is down can cause stress on the body and THAT in itself might be an outbreak trigger.

I’ve been working on the H Pal pages guys:
http://yoshi2me.com/herpes-h-pals.html

You might have to refresh your browser. I know I do every time I update the pages.

I got rid of A LOT of the junk pages I had out there.

If you would like to be an H Pal for your area I sure would LOVE to have you. All I need is a photo (jpg format), a couple of paragraphs of inspirational message, the city/town/state/country you’d like to represent, and an e-mail address I can use for your page.

That’s it –

Just send me everything I need to put your H Pal page together to my e-mail address which is yoshi2me@cox.net — if you are worried about getting tons of e-mail for being an H Pal don’t because it’s not busy at all. You might get a couple of e-mail a month (if that).

Anyway — like I said — I would love to have you on board as an H Pal.

Can’t wait to be surprised with your request to be an H Pal!!
