Senator Bayh,
As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the healthcare bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government’s proposed involvement in the patient physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a healthcare system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our healthcare system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.
I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.

Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do everything possible to inform patients and my fellow physicians about the dangers of the proposed bills you and your colleagues are debating.
Furthermore, If you vote for a bill that enforces socialized medicine on the country and destroys the doctor/patient relationship, I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose your job in the next election.
Respectfully,

You can still have a Family
Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »
I haven’t been here for a while but today I decided to check in and I was amazed at how many people had read my post. I just wanted to update and say that my daughter is doing fine. She is so out going. My husband and I are actually looking forward to having a second child!
I just wanted everyone out there to know that having herpes doesn’t mean you can’t have a family. It is absolutely possible! Being the worried mother that i was, I asked my doctor about this at every visit. He reminds me all the time that the chances of a baby contracting herpes while pregnant are very low and that I should not have to worry much about herpes.
Which brings me to another thing, please find a supportive doctor because they make all the difference. I wish all those who are expecting the best! ~ D

Dear Seeking Asian Man
Posted in Dating Buzz, Health Buzz | 3 Comments »
SeekingAsianMan wrote in with a subject line that stated the following:
Trying to find an Asian or Native American male with H is hard
SeekingAsianMan had this to say:
I’m single 23 mature and living in northern california.
I responded with this bit of advice:
You know this isn’t a dating site, right? Here’s a list of herpes dating sites as well as regular every day dating sites:
http://yoshi2me.com/herpes-dating.html
Some are free and others… not so much.
Good luck with your search.
Numb Nuts (SeekingAsianMan) had the nerve to write me back with the following:
Guess I’m done then. Those sites have hardly anyone on them. U have been on them all. Suicide is my best bet.
You know what SeekingAsianMan?
I feel sorry for you. You have resorted to scrounging around for a man on a yahoo group that was geared for support NOT online dating. Are you THAT desperate that you’ve created a screen name called “Seeking Asian Man” OR is that the best you can do?
Why don’t you stop begging to be in a relationship and concentrate on the parts of life that will get you out of your particular frame of mind? I am not on all the yahoo groups.
The only yahoo groups I am on are the following: Picking Up the Pieces, South Florida H Friends, Life After H, and Oklahoma H Club. None of which are online dating sites.
Perhaps if you got your head out of your ass and stopped being so rude you might find a date, or two, or three. And since you seem to have all the answers stop writing to people like me who don’t really have the time to spend on people like you.

Can you get HIV if you have Herpes?
Posted in Health Buzz | 3 Comments »Is it possible to get hiv if u have herpes? How?
That was the question sent to me a few days ago.
Usually when people ask this question they are meaning to ask if the Herpes Virus can turn into HIV? The answer to that question is no, the Herpes Virus does not magically turn into the HIV virus.
The Herpes Virus and the HIV Virus are two completely and totally separate sexually transmittable diseases.
Now… if you do have Herpes it does make it easier to contract the HIV virus but that’s only because having an outbreak or asymptomatic shedding on the surface of the skin would make it easier for the HIV virus to enter your body.
Make sense so far?
So no, the herpes virus doesn’t turn into the HIV virus because they are two completely different STDS.
And yes, having the herpes virus can make it easier to contract the HIV virus.
I hope that answers your question. Let me know, ok?

Planned Parenthood forever challenging Pro-Life Laws
Posted in Health Buzz | 2 Comments »Planned Parenthood Challenges Alaska Pro-Life Law
An Alaska school teacher and Planned Parenthood have filed suit seeking to block a ballot initiative that would mandate parental involvement with teens seeking abortions.
Anchorage high school teacher Susan Wingrove opposes the pro-life effort.
“I feel like the initiative isn’t clear about penalties for doctors and other issues and is overwhelming for many teens,” she said.
The Alaska Family Council is backing the initiative that says a parent must either be notified or give permission for the abortion. President Jim Minnery said he expected the opposition.
“It’s a tactic that they’ve taken across the country,” he said. “In every one of the 40 states where we now have parental consent or notification, they’ve stepped forward.”
The pro-family organization has to collect nearly 33,000 signatures to put the initiative on the August 2010 ballot. —Steve Jordahl
I have never been a fan of Planned Parenthood going against the family. Parents have a right to raise their kids and should be notified if their kids are trying to get birth control or to get an abortion. I think parents should be able to sign off on these things and really be there for their kids when they are discovering them in these very scary and and confusing situations.
In Nebraska a 17 year old can walk into their local Walgreens pharmacy and buy Plan B without parental consent too. I don’t think that’s right. I think parents need to be aware of what is going on with their kids. If you think your kids are not being tempted or participating in these sorts of activities then you are blinded by the reality that surrounds us in this world.
Some will say that many kids are being abused. Well, if that is the case then why isn’t Planned Parenthood notifying the authorities and getting child protective services involved?

Free Communication Weekend Starts Today – So what do you guys really think about eHarmony? Is it a dating site that you’ve tried? Did you have success with it OR not so much?
I was booted from MPWH – Were you booted from that dating site? If you were booted from that site… tell us why. I’d love to know. I get e-mails from people all the time complaining about the rigid rules of this particular online dating site. Let’s expose it for what it is. Good or Bad I would love to read your input.
MPWH the New Big Brother – If you are not happy with that dating site then why do you give them your money? Why not try some of the other dating sites out there? Remember, you don’t have to limit yourself to dating only those that have herpes.
Those are the posts that you guys were interested in the most in the month of July 2009.

Pulling Out Herpes Medication
Posted in Health Buzz | 1 Comment »—–Email Message—–
I like to rearrange the inside of my medicine cabinet according to who is visiting me. When my coworkers come over for a dinner party I hide my generic products and replace them with my designer perfumes and makeup. If I decide to scare off my date, I pull out my herpes medication and “display” it. My favorite is to “accidently” forget to hide my sex toys when mom drops by.

Emotional Support and Understanding
Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »I would like to thank you for having the courage to be honest about living with HSV and HPV. I suffer from both, finding out the latter just today, and it makes me feel better just to read about someone, anyone struggling with the same emotions that with the diagnosis.
I have had HSV for over a year and have found that each day and each month it becomes less painful, and I am not even talking about the physical pain. Anyway, I can only hope that I will be able to take care of my HPV with as much dignity and grace I can find, which, again, brings me to thanking you, because I feel that in light of any STD, emotional support and understanding is the fastest way to healing. So thank you. – Caitlyn

Your site gave me Courage
Posted in Health Buzz | 2 Comments »Your site gave me courage to tell the guy I was dating about my ’situation’. Despite it still haunting me (I’ve had it for less than a year), I like to think that I have mostly come to terms with it. I had feared telling him, had cried a lot over it, but he was accepting when I told him. So, in short, I would like to thank you. Thank you for your informative and real site. It has helped me a lot. – Anna
