Questions asked from the “Will It Kill Me” Post

When i tested three years ago for a full panle exam when i was about 19 years old, i was only positive for type 1 and negative for type 2. i had a bad cold or flu around decmeber and kept coughing till now so last week i did an std test to rule out hiv etc. this past week i found i had type 2. it was done through advanced testing center. its all done over the phone and they tell you where to go to for a local testing center lab and i call advance testing center a few days after once they get my results from the lab.. so i just found out i have type 2.

Yes but how were you tested through these testing centers? Did you go into a clinic and have a herpes type specific antibody test (a blood test) done? How do you know that you have HSV-2? What did the doctor say to you when you were told that you have Herpes Type-2?

i thought once you get type 1 its rare to get type 2.

You know what… I think there are people that will contract HSV-1, HSV-2, both OR nothing at all. I honestly believe that having HSV-1 doesn’t always protect you from contracting HSV-2. If that were the case then we wouldn’t have people out there that have both types.. ya know? Does that make sense?

so i didnt go for reaon of symptoms it was just my idea to do a full panel test becuase i was sick for longer than a usual cold.. it was a blood test done through Herpes Simplex 1 & 2 IGG Antibody Test. is this test accurate? is there a chance it can be wrong since i haven had symptoms? is it worth retesting or its pretty accurate? and i was taking acid reflux medication and antibiotic for my cough at the time of the lab work. does that matter? sorry for all the questions.. im just freaking out..

I have always heard over the years that IGG is pretty darn accurate. It’s the IGM that you want to stay away from. At least that is what I’ve always heard. What did your doctor think about all of this? What did your doctor tell you?

You know, lots and lots of people have herpes and they don’t get any symptoms that they can see or feel. It’s possible to have herpes and not know it because of this reason. Just because you can’t see anything doesn’t mean that you don’t have it.

I don’t think it matters what you are taking. Usually when you go in to see your doctor they will ask you what medications you are taking so that they can be aware of what’s in your system. I don’t think what you mentioned has anything to do with affecting the test results. If it did, I would imagine the doctor would not have run these tests.. ya know?

i am rarely eating and sleeping since i found out.. am i over reacting?

I think that is a perfectly normal reaction to have when you first find out that you have herpes and it comes as a surprise or a shock to you. Try not to let this run or ruin your life. Read what you can about the virus, learn how it works, and try to calm yourself down. You don’t want to have a nervous breakdown over all of this. It’s just not worth it.

thank god i havent noticed symptoms. the counselor from advanced testing told me if i havent had outbreas yet than i likely may not see outbreaks.. is that true?

I think that they probably have a point. You are probably one of those people that doesn’t get outbreaks all that often if ever at all. Something that you have to remember though is that it’s still possible to pass herpes even if there are no outbreaks, signs or symptoms present. Try and remember that, ok?

i have thoughts of not even getting married anymore or having kids.. is that overreacting?

Yes! I believe you are over reacting. Your life doesn’t end and you don’t stop living it once you find out that you have herpes. Of course you can still have children!

the counselors told me if i havent seen anything yet than i may ot see any outbreas… and then online i read that it causes about 5 outbreaks a year?? i dont know who to belive or what to expect?

Not everybody that has herpes is going to experience it the exact same way. When someone is sharing an experience about having herpes it doesn’t always mean that you will experience the same things either. Some people get outbreak all the time, some only some of the time, and other never really experience outbreaks at all.

i defintely dont want to be with any girls for a while.. can i resume with my life the way it was before i found out i was positive? some websites say herpes is more of nuicance than a medical problem.. is that true?

Hey, sometimes it’s a good idea to take a break from dating all together if you are constantly always having to be in a relationship or can’t seem to function without having a boyfriend or a girlfriend. I would say that it’s important to love yourself before you try maintaining a relationship with somebody.

Those web sites are right about herpes! Having herpes is really not that big of a deal once you get your mind wrapped around it.

i havent been doing my job correctly and my boss has been on me this past week about my performance… is this how i should be acting?

You should not allow having herpes to affect your word performance. There is just no reason for it.. you don’t want to lose your job because you are unable to focus and complete your tasks at work, right?

is there any health complications from this?

No, not at all. At least not that I can think of.

can i get married and have kids just like my parents and have a family? thanks so much.. sorry for the questions.. i just feel like my life just ended and thats all im thining about.. maybe im freaking out becuase i just found a few days ago.. thanks again

Of course you can get married and have a family and children! I want you to take a look at a couple more page on my web site that I think you will find helpful: Herpes Biography & Herpes Telling

See if those links will be helpful for you & hang in there. You are not alone and your life is not over. Not by a long shot!

Don’t Live Life In Fear

Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »

Three in the morning,
And I’m still awake,
So I picked up a pen and a page,
And I started writing,
Just what I’d say,
If we were face to face,
I’d tell you just what you mean to me,
I’d tell you these simple truths,

Be strong in the Lord and,
Never give up hope,
You’re going to do great things,
I already know,
God’s got His hand on you so,
Don’t live life in fear,
Forgive and forget,
But don’t forget why you’re here,
Take your time and pray,
These are the words I would say,

Last time we spoke,
You said you were hurting,
And I felt your pain in my heart,
I want to tell you,
That I keep on praying,
Love will find you where you are,
I know cause I’ve already been there,
So please hear these simple truths,

Be strong in the Lord and,
Never give up hope,
You’re going to do great things,
I already know,
God’s got His hand on you so,
Don’t live life in fear,
Forgive and forget,
But don’t forget why you’re here,
Take your time and pray,
These are the words I would say,

From one simple life to another,
I will say,
Come find peace in the Father,

Be strong in the Lord and,
Never give up hope,
You’re going to do great things,
I already know,
God’s got His hand on you so,
Don’t live life in fear,
Forgive and forget,
But don’t forget why you’re here,
Take your time and pray,
Thank God for each day,
His love will find a way,
These are the words I would say

Will It Kill Me?

Posted in Health Buzz | 7 Comments »

i am positive for type 1 and type 2. i only had one outbreak on around my lip about 3 years ago when i was 19 years old. at that time i was only positive for type 1 which i was told its just cold sores. now i just found out i have type 2 as well but never had an outbreak in the genitals thank god.. will it kill me? will i have health complications from this? will this affect me or not allow me to have kids at all?

When did your positive test result come into the picture? Were you recently tested via blood test OR did you have a sore cultured? What did your doctor tell you?

Yes, a history of cold sores and/or fever blisters indicates that you have oral herpes. That is what cold sores and fever blisters are ie: Herpes.

There are A LOT of people out there that have Herpes Type-2 and they don’t even know it because they’ve never been tested for it OR they have mistaken their symptoms for something else like yeast infection or jock itch.

Many people that go in for routine STD testing don’t even realize that Herpes is not always included in that routine testing. So when they come out of their appointment they are thinking they are free and clear when in reality they have only been tested for a few things like Gonorrhea and Chlamydia.

Having Herpes Simplex Virus is Not going to kill you. Being diagnosed with herpes is Not a death sentence either. Having Herpes doesn’t weaken your immune system. You can still have kids too. Life Goes On!

Haiti Needs Our Help

By now I’m sure you have heard about what happened in Haiti:

The 7.0-magnitude earthquake caused thousands of buildings to collapse in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, trapping untold numbers in tons of rubble. While estimating the number of casualties was impossible, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said, “Clearly, there’s going to be serious loss of life in this.” HT: Fox News

Below is a listing of legit organizations with which you can give to knowing that your donation will go directly to the relief efforts in Haiti.

You can also give your local churches a call and find out what they have planned in order to help with this tragedy in Haiti. Many times churches will put together a package to send to any of the organizations that I have listed above.

Getting Pregnant

Posted in Health Buzz | No Comments »

Hi I have so many questions but have no Safe place to ask. Even my GYN gives me no hope for a herpes free future. Can you help me? I’ve just recently fallen in love with someone who has Herpes. We have not been sexually active. We have however, discussed children. My question is; how can I conceive without risking myself? Is invitro possible and the only route? I want to have his child and I would like to have our first child naturally. Is this possible?

Your GYN gave you know words of wisdom? Your GYN gave you no hope at all? Did your GYN offer to have you tested for herpes to see if you had it? Do you know your status?

Many people still do not understand that Herpes Testing is not part of the routine STD testing process. You go on in life thinking that you are free and clear and negative of all sexually transmitted diseases but reality says that you don’t really know for sure. The next time you talk to your doctor let he/she know that you would like to have routine STD Testing done. When they agree to that tell them you would like to know exactly which diseases they will be testing you for. Make a list so that you can then ask about the ones that are not included in their testing. Every doc’s office tests for different things so you have to ask. You can not just assume you are free and clear.

When you love somebody you LOVE them. I understand you want to make a future with the one that you love. So you are in the stage where you are discussing marriage, children and your future. You can still have all of these things with the one you Love. You just have to take it one-day-at-a-time and try to do things in order not out-of-order. Right now you are asking questions.. that’s good.

Your partner having herpes doesn’t change what you would do if your partner didn’t have herpes. You can have sex like you normally would. You can get pregnant like you normally would. You can have babies like you normally would. Life Goes On!

As far as I know my husband doesn’t have genital herpes. I’m the one with genital herpes. He has oral herpes due to a history of cold sores and fever blisters but most people out there have that anyway. It’s the same thing really.. just a different location. Back when we were very serious about our relationship while we were dating, we then became engaged, and began planning our wedding and for our future. I was always worried about him contracting the virus. He finally sat me down and told me that if he wound out contracting it from me then so be it. If it meant he got to have me in his life for the rest of our lives he did not care.

Ultimately when you love somebody and you are planning your future you are basically saying that you love them unconditionally. You would move mountains to be with that person and they having herpes would not keep you from being with them.

If you love this guy like you say you do then this will not be a problem. There are many things that he can do to keep you from contracting herpes. For example: He could go on suppressive therapy. Suppressive therapy reduces outbreak frequency and Asymptomatic Shedding. Suppressive therapy reduces transmission and has been proven to do so by 50%. That was the result of a clinical study that was done in the fall of 2003. If you are that uncomfortable with the possibility that one day you may contract the virus then you can throw a condom into that mix but honestly.. when you love somebody none of that really matters. The two of you can do what you think is best for your relationship and at the same time you have to know that no matter what you decide you are taking a risk.

You have to ask yourself.. how much do you love him? No matter what you decide there is always going to be a chance that you will contract something. You take that risk every time you have sex with somebody even if it’s protected sex.

You can get married, you can have babies, you can have your babies naturally… that’s with or without herpes in the equation. I do a lot of talking about this over on my Herpes Biography. Hope that helps.

Happy Y2K+10! It’s snowing here in Nebraska and I’m enjoying a day with nowhere to go! Lots and lots of white stuff outside.
