About HPV and cervical cancer
Worldwide, cervical cancer affects more than 400,000 women annually and, after breast cancer, is the second-most-common malignancy found in women. Cervical cancer is caused by “high-risk” types of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which are sexually transmitted. It’s estimated that 80 percent of women will get an HPV infection at some point in their lives. However, in most cases, the infection goes away or is suppressed by the body without causing problems. It is only infections that persist that can cause abnormal cells to form that may develop into cervical cancer if not detected and treated early.

Take a look at those numbers up there. There are so many people affected by cancer, it’s mind boggling. That’s why early detection is the key to prevention! Heed those words. It is especially important because as women afflicted by cancer, the biggest blow to your self esteem can come in the form of chemo related hair loss. This is an important issue to me, because a few years ago I lost my father to esophageal cancer. I am a community ambassador with Pantene for Million Inch Chain. Thank you so much for posting this article, it’s really beneficial. Having the illness is a real struggle. I have a history of it in my family. I’m a community ambassador with Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and together we are trying to gather 1 million inches of hair to provide wigs for women dealing with chemo related hair loss. We come in and deliver these wigs to these women and hopefully try and rebuild their confidence to give them a fighting chance in overcoming this serious illness, and the depression it can cause.
