AIDS: A special case?

AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is the most serious STD because it can lead to death. AIDS is caused by a virus known as the human Immuno-deficiency virus (HIV). This virus attacks the body’s immune system and leaves the person unable to fight off many kinds of infections and cancers.

Between 800,000 and 1.2 million people in the United States are infected with HIV. The virus cannot be cured, but new medicines can slow the damage that HIV causes to the immune system.

An important nutrient for people suffering from AIDS and other malignant diseases which suppress the immune system might be L-Argenine. This supplement is an amino acid that improves your health by assisting the body in getting rid of ammonia (which is a waste product) and is used to make beneficial compounds in the body such as L-glutamine, creatine, and L-proline.

L-Argenine is extremely useful in enhancing the immune system, and it increases the size and activity of the thymus gland, which is responsible for manufacturing T lymphocytes – the much talked about T-cells, which assist the immune system.
