Can you get HIV if you have Herpes?

Is it possible to get hiv if u have herpes? How?

That was the question sent to me a few days ago.

Usually when people ask this question they are meaning to ask if the Herpes Virus can turn into HIV? The answer to that question is no, the Herpes Virus does not magically turn into the HIV virus.

The Herpes Virus and the HIV Virus are two completely and totally separate sexually transmittable diseases.

Now… if you do have Herpes it does make it easier to contract the HIV virus but that’s only because having an outbreak or asymptomatic shedding on the surface of the skin would make it easier for the HIV virus to enter your body.

Make sense so far?

So no, the herpes virus doesn’t turn into the HIV virus because they are two completely different STDS.

And yes, having the herpes virus can make it easier to contract the HIV virus.

I hope that answers your question. Let me know, ok?

I get that question A LOT. I don’t mind explaining it and help people understand that herpes does not turn into HIV.
