And you shouldn't go and tell people to rub lemons all over their outbreaks because it's a sure fire cure, but dismissing a feasible treatment and cutting someone down for suggesting lemons worked for them isn't going to help anyone either. Rob's right, you have to start somewhere and since studies on this topic ARE being done, the proof you're looking for might be closer then you think.

I didn't say that it wasn't possible.. but at the same time I'm not going to tell somebody to go home and rub lemons all over their outbreak and expect that they will find relief either when their are clinically proven herpes antivirals that are guaranteed to fix the problem.

Hundreds of years ago doctors used leaches for a variety of health issues and modern science dismissed this practice as foolish and just plain archaic until very recently when we finally learned (or relearned ) what the ancients already knew there WAS a practical use for them and now they save damaged body parts, the point being just because it hasnt been proven yet doesnt mean there is no scientific possibility that it may help, most of todays modern cures for everything come from little understood insects, plants, poisens, fungus, mold etc etc... where do you think antibiotics come from?... trials come later... after someone stumbles onto something that works...

I'm not saying that lemons were the absolute reason that this person had fewer outbreaks. I'm saying it IS a possibility. There are studies being done on the effectiveness of ascorbic acid on herpes treatment. I read the topic and thought to myself, "Okay this person probably isn't suggesting lemons cured their herpes unless they saw some sort of results. That's weird... is it possible that lemons could have an effect?" When I searched around I found that yes, it is a possibility. The statement, "Lemons cure herpes" can't be made without proof I agree, but I'm stating a hypothesis not a theory.

It also could have been due in part to regular stress. Maybe she had a fight with her boyfriend. Maybe she didn't get enough sleep or there was something else going on in her body. You can't tell me that lemons do anything for herpes unless you can prove it to me via rigorous clinical studies that help to rule out ALL the other possibilities as well as how the virus travels and mutates, etc.

It could have been all in their head, but that doesn't mean it was. Lots of people have outbreaks related to conditions which affect the integrity of the skin in the outbreak site. For example, high sun exposure triggers outbreaks in some people. Lack of ascorib acid affects the skin much to the same extent. This individuals outbreaks could have been due to weak skin triggering the virus.

I agree that lemons are not clinically proven antivirals, I'm saying that the vitamins in lemons could aid treatment and prevention through not triggering the virus and by speeding healing of damaged skin.

There are studies being done on this by the way, here are two peer reviewed articles just as a start:

Topical antiviral agents for herpes simplex virus infections By Hamuy, R In Drugs of Today

Mechanism of copper-mediated inactivation of herpes simplex virus By Sagripanti, JL, Routson, LB, Bonifacino, AC and Lytle, CD In ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS AND CHEMOTHERAPY

I don't think being a man OR a woman has anything to do with it. Whether or not a person has signs or symptoms that they can see or feel varies from person to person.

There is no proof that this particular remedy did anything for that individual's herpes. It could have been the type and where it's located OR it could have been purely all in their head.

Uh no.. eating a lemon is not a clinically proven herpes antiviral otherwise we would all be eating lemons to treat herpes.

Ok, it's common knowledge that nothing so far can completely get rid of HSV... but that's great that someone found something that works for them to reduce their outbreaks! That was this person's point, "Point being I believe that I have found a possible remedy to reduce herpes frequencies".

Lemons contain a wide variety of vitamins in high concentrations such as ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Ascorbic acid deficiencies present in the form of weak skin and poor wound healing. It's possible that the reason that this person was having such frequent outbreaks was because of an ascorbic acid deficiency providing opportunity for HSV to cause outbreaks. Toughen the skin and speed wound healing by consuming more vitamin C. Sounds like a pretty solid treatment to me.
