Hi Keysha - I think it's important to track your outbreaks and just pay attention to your body and what your triggers are. Before we get to all of your questions has your boyfriend been tested?

Wow , I must say Meredith & her husband are a waste of time. I mean come on, arguing, swearing, and everything isn't necessary over a blog. Really, GROW UP, and this is coming from someone I'm sure is quiet younger than you! ( Omg, and not to mention the first half was a big RUN-ON ! ) haha..

Proceeding to my problems, this for the other ladies that are have the herpes virus. I was diagnosed today with the virus, from my carelessness at a college party. ( Im a freshmen ) Next thing you know, I have all these symptoms, so I already knew what I was coming into when I visited my ob/gyn.
I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone you could answer for me other than pregnancy ( I don't plan on that for a while , lol )

1. I started taking Valtrex today , immediately after I was informed that I had the virus. I also called up my boyfriend and told him that I had it. I'm sure he doesn't have it ( haven't had sex since my stupidity), I know exactly who gave it to me. And being that he hardly had sex before and a serious relationship, I had to inform him that not only did I have this, but I cheated, b/c of carelessness. Is the sex going to be different. I plan on taking the meds everyday, until I'm told not to( 60-day supply ) . I've read some people who have this virus that has had unprotected sex w/ their permanent partner, ( not during an outbreak of course ) that didn't pass it to his partner and still had a beautiful child. Is our sex going go to back to normal eventually? Will we always have to use a condom? I plan on being with him for a "very" long time. And How do I know if I'm having an outbreak? ( Haven't had one yet )

Thank you

gosh, I stumbled onto this write up regarding pregnancy and g herpes, and I agree with the doctors, my daughter is in the same arena, and he explains the same information. So ladies you are correct! But, good god, what is with that Meredith, is she for real, if she's so intelligent, she sure does not portray that, her attitude needs adjusted!., or maybe she thinks she so beyond everyone that she became blind to how she really is. stupid!

Wow, I never realized that you could get so much back lash for posting something like this. Basically everything that the doctor has told me. But considering this is my first pregnancy and question every step I am taking at this moment, I needed a little more confirmation. I appreciate this post. It sites informative sources. I understand Meredith's position on presenting both sides. Obviously taking a drug such as Valtrex is a personal choice and you do have a reason to voice your opinion, but I can bet that you have much less creditibility with hostile words.

Now something new that I found out when I first got pregnant was that my doctor advised me to stop taking the Valtrex immedaitely. After three good years of taking it faithfully and new pregnancy hormones storming my body, let's just say it was not pleasant. My doctor has said there is no proof of any harm to the baby during the first trimester, however wanted to error on the side of caution as the most crucial development of the baby is taking place. I am almost through my 12th week and in almost another I can crack open my bottle of Valtrex!

Then again, everyone is different and some people will react differently to new drugs, hormone changes, pregnancies, but just talk to your doctor(s). There is no proof that one tiny 500mg of Valtrex could have wrecked someone's immune system so badly during pregnancy. It seems a little far off. There is a possibilty but still, very slight especially in the dead of winter.

Again Angela, thanks for the site! Its good to not be the only one on this boat!
