My silly online dating story!

So you've all heard the horror stories, the stories of devastation and anger. Now hear my story and you've got to have a good laugh as I did!!! This is the story of the blonde who doesn't pay enough attention to details.

I've had the "Big H" now for probably 18 years. I was misdiagnosed for the first 12 of those years and was single the whole time. Pretty scary, huh? I did eventually marry, but am now divorced again and dread the thought of dating again.

Back in March, I thought I would try looking within my own species (herpes v. non-herpes) for new dating hopefuls. So one night while one the Internet I found a Herpes dating site called "Dream Dates". Several months later I met a charming fellow and we quickly graduated from e-mails to exchanging phone numbers.

Twenty minutes into the first phone call, our discussion  had turned to dating for the over 40 set. I said "yes, it's pure hell getting out there again and then you throw herpes into the mix..."   He said, "WHAT"!!!????

Then came this lllllllllooooooooonnnnnnnngggggggg uncomfortable silence!!! I was mortified!!! Because it was at that moment, that I knew he did not have the "Big H". So I said "herpes, this is a herpes dating web site".  He replied with a quite confident, "no it's not". That's when I told him I was just going to quietly hang the phone up and go pull my profile. I was so embarrassed. Luckily, he said "don't hang up, I like the sound of your voice and I'd like to get to know more about you." We ended up talking for 2 hours that night and dating for the next 6 weeks. I hope this story brings a smile to your face and inspires all of you to keep trying to find happiness.

Try and remember... the more you are, the less you need.

An update from Char

Hello everybody, sorry I’ve been so distant and that it’s taken me so long to write my story. Last month I moved to Yankton South Dakota, and now that all the boxes are unpacked I can sit down and write to all of you. The reason I moved to Yankton is because this is where I finally found love!

In the winter of 2003 I signed on to an online dating site and posted my profile. In the beginning I met a few nice guys that resulted in a couple of dates but nothing to get excited about. Then things went dormant for a while and I forgot that my profile & picture were still out there . . . that is until April of 2004 when Steve from Yankton e-mailed me.

We exchanged e-mails, then phone calls and our first date soon followed. Yankton is only 2 and a half hours away so we decided the drive could be worth it if we were compatible. He drove to Omaha and I was immediately impressed! We had a few more dates after that and then he shipped out to work off the coast of Hawaii. He is in the Merchant Marines and travels a lot for them. During this time we exchanged daily e-mails and that is when we really got to know each other.

After 3 months of being out to sea, he returned and that’s when the relationship heated up! For the next 7 months we did the long distance thing until deciding it was best to shack up!!!

So last month I moved to Yankton and I love it here. I was able to transfer with the Post Office and Steve is still working for the Merchant Marines. We  have a beautiful relationship and I feel like I have hit the lotto since Steve came into my life.

So my message to all of you is: Hang in there, don’t give up. It might take a while, but true love is out there for you. I always thought of Herpes as a curse; but it is the one thing that has led me to find my soul mate in this life.

. . . and they lived happily ever after!

Your friend Char
